Overview
I LOVE Witchbook.net and the People on it!!!
Do I really post everything in my life here??????
Do I really post everything in my life here??????
456 days ago 16 comments Categories: The Goddess records Tags: telling too much to too many people probably

The other day, in the course of emailing back and forth with a friend here, he made a comment about me posting EVERYTHING about my life on Witchbook!!!

.

So, I got to thinking about what I HAVE posted.......no, I would NOT want to take any of it back, sometimes after I post, I think EWWW!!! TMI!! But, is too much information about my life already all over the web?!  YES!!!

.

Witchbook.net seems to get the best and the worst of my life in posts.......I have posted photos of my living room, which is tiny and every flat surface has at LEAST one Goddess on it, there are more altars than there is Living Room!!!  Someone was kind enough to rate some of my photos the other day, and I had to look at my Living Room from another perspective, She rated 4 of my photos VERY HIGHLY!!!  And then made nice comments about my cluttered little living space that made me feel truly wonderful about all the things I have collected and brought together here.

.

Since I came to my Goddess worship through archeology and anthropology, you will find 2 of Marijta Gimbutas' works, "The Language of the Goddess" (which includes dots, meanders, and spirals used as a language) and "Civilizations of the Goddess", these are my all time favorite books, besides my dictionary......but that's a blog for another day.  Another book I treasure is Riane Eisler's "The Chalice and the Blade", and then, written by her and her life partner there is "The Partnership Way" which is mainly about how couples can weave their lives together in peace and harmony and enhance their relationship by doing that........ok, People!  A new way to fight!!!  Hee hee, not really.......it's about living together in partnership with another and it has some VERY good information in it.

.

Another favorite book is "The Great Cosmic Mother" by Barbara Mor and Monica Sjoo.  Now, these ladies were ANGRY when they wrote this book!!!  They had decided to LOOK for the archeological evidence for Goddess worship in the world........expecting, perhaps, not to find much, since not much has been made public on this subject!  Come to find out, there are MASSES of evidence of Goddess worship, most of it relegated to the "fertility goddess" kind of thing.   So, in one area, in or near Greece, they found at least ONE village where there were Goddess statues in EVERY HOME!!!  This particular place had NO depictions of violence or slavery, or anything of the sort in their art works......think about that.......NO VIOLENCE depicted......there also were no WALLS around this village (or ancient CITY), so they think the People there may have been VERY SURPRISED to be overrun by a patriarchal society that was happy to use violence to get what they wanted.  Whatever they found there, it seems to me, that the important part of the truth they found in this ancient city, was the fact of Goddess worship, and small niches in every home that held a Goddess figure.......EVERY home!!!  THAT IS BIG STUFF in my world!!!  Far from being relegated to "fertility" worship, the Goddess was present in their every day lives, and she was appreciated for much more than just the "fertility" of the land and the People there.

.

I believe my FIRST woman oriented "companion" book was "The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets".......a VERY interesting book!!!  And, as it's name says, it IS an encycopedic dictionary of terms used and "new" definitions of words we commonly use and just don't think about.  Good starting place for a lot of women, I think.

.

Dr. Marijta Gimbutas' works are now out of print, I believe.......I could be wrong, after all, MY copies of her books are "newer" paperback versions, not the original printings.  ALL of these books were "collected" as I wandered through the archeological records of the Goddess, her civilizations, her People, and her worship.  Dr. Gimbutas has been dead for many years now, and her books WERE out of print until they printed the newer paperback versions.  And I've probably had my copies of her work for about 15-20 years now.  I remember HOW EXCITED I was to discover 2 of her books at the same time!!!!  YAYNESS happening HERE!!!

.

At any rate, all of these books, and many others that I have collected over the years, are SO precious in my life, and in my belief structure about the Goddess and women in general.  It is SUCH a relief to look at women through another lense, and NOT the patriarchal view that most "modern" societies hold to be "truth".

.

OMGoddess!!!  How could I have forgotten "When God Was a Woman" by Merlin Stone and "Our Bodies Our Selves" by a collective of Boston women, AND of course "Sisterhood Is Global" which is a collection of essays, truly from women all the world over......they explain about the languages used in their countries, the law structure, and how women are truly treated in their countries........excellent work, even if you have NO interrest in being a Witch!!!

.

Thank you for listening yet again, People.  Talk to me.

We love hearing about your life, Dancing. Never stop talking -- blogging's awesome for one's mental processes, and witchbook itself is awesome for friends, right? So I can't see it ever really being a bad thing. ^_^

You do have the cutest little cottage :) I am so glad you shared pics of it! I love to see how other people have decorated their spiritual spaces-it is very interesting and I get ideas for my own.

Firstly...is it EVERYTHING about your life? Or just the current puzzles you're trying to get insight on...working over in your mind out loud. That's quite an assumption for someone to make if they're not in your every day life. Yeah, one can infer a lot from pics and blogs. But...I have a feeling I would fail badly should I try to extrapolate everything I've seen into some kinda summary on your life. I am paranoid(ish??) about what goes online..my concern is more about what is linked to my legal name. And I still post things. I still talk to people. Relatively deeply. They STILL don't know all there is to know about me. They can make a good guess...it can be wrong. There is a infinite myriad of things that go into each typed line or the placement of each photographed thing you didn't log. Each FACET of you in part and untold amounts in the totality of you. Don't think you're THAT easy to figure out. You're not. Another thing I saw that struck me was about the authors of a book being angry. One immediate feeling goes back to what I just said but I haven't read that book; and another... finding evidence of extensive matriarchal societies is surprising. I'm not. It'd be cool if we could hold a representation of each gender in equal amazement; whole or in part but I think that's our next progression (from how many before?). Something I haven't seen a lot of. it's always one or the other. One held in submission in favor of the other. Perhaps it's a requirement of the world we live in, but I think not, really. Great blog again! Thanks :D

Oh boo, so you share quite a bit of your life with us. I'm glad you do, 'cause quite frankly I think you're an awesome woman and fellow Witch. Oh Dancing, all these books you've talked about, it's going to drive me right into the poorhouse lol (oh wait, I'm already there lol) but I digress. Sometimes I wish we still had that bit of Goddess worship present in our daily lives for everyone. The peace that would ensue sounds downright divine. I never did like the patriarchal view of things, even as a small child I disliked it and thought it was wrong. Oh, and I did find that book Ancient Healing. It was hiding from me lol, I misplace things fairly often so I'll be getting it sent off soon...before I misplace it again lol.
