The ways of the Gods and the ways of man are not too dissimilar. In my Tradition of heathenry, we hold that each God and Goddess are separate beings, not different facets of the same Crystal. They each have likes and dislikes, spouses and lovers, children and occupations. They have gone through every experience that we can imagine and more. The only thing that sets them apart is their understanding of the Ways of Fate. We too can open ourselves to learn to see more Clearly the way that things inter-Weave. This may cause many of us much psychological harm as we can not let go of the baggage that we have carried and has been forced upon us by outside sources. We believe that we know it all. We believe that our Ancestors must have it wrong because they were less advanced than us. But, isn't it funny how we look to the past in order to push our own views into the future? We take that which is precious and pure and bastardize it because we think we are so much wiser than they ever were.
Why must we do this? Is this a hold over from our Christian upbringings, or can we come to the point and admit that we have had it wrong the whole time? I think Ego is a very powerful force which holds us back. We equate Knowledge with Wisdom and look at everything from the realm of Belief instead of seeing all sides of a point of view. Even the ROmans in their polytheistic heyday tried to make correspondences with their Deities onto other cultures.
These are just some thoughts to ponder.
