Why does yoru Incense smoke always move towards you? Well, there's an old saying "Smoke always follow beauty", which is nice to think about, but there has to be a real reason. Here it is:
Convection.
Now obviously you want a better explanation that just one word:
In a room without a fan, or powerful heater, the strongest heat-source is you. This means that at all times, you are creating a very slow updraft of air. As well, any cold windows in the room, will create a slow down-current of air. This creates the perfect conditions for Convection.
Convection is always best displayed with a diagram. So here is a Diagram. Remember, the red arrows are the air-current.
In the above Diagram, we can see in Figure 1, that the air is moving up around us (as warm air rises), and down at the exterior walls. This will pull anything close to the ground (in the air, like smoke) towards us. And anything near the cieling will travel away from us.
However, in Figure B, you can see a stronger heat source, this will become the dominant force in pulling air upwards, and should draw in the smoke. To simulate this, try placing a simple candle between you and the incense. It may not be as powerful, but it should be able to draw up most of the smoke.

However, in the case of camp fires--the camp fire would be a higher source of heat energy and would normally (on a non-windy day) send the smoke straight upward. So why, then, does camp fire follow you? One explanation is that if you're in a group, a group of people have conjoined vortexes of energy which can, as a collective, create a vortex of energy stronger than that of a solitary fire and draw the smoke closer toward you. Another explanation is that we are all energy, and energy vibrates. No energy is ever still. We each vibrate at different levels (as does everything else around us: trees, rocks, people, planets, cancer, flu viruses, etc...) and when we enter an altered state of consciousness, we are able to change the vibration of our energy to match or surpass that of something else around us---Fire is a very primal source of energy and has always been a very good source for helping to induce (even involuntarily) altered states of consciousness for people. Raising energy in a circle around a fire sets the mood which is prime for the fire to captivate you and help you to enter an ASC. Once done, your energy tends to match that of which your focus is on---if you're focusing on the fire, then your energy vibration matches that of the fire and thus the smoke is drawn to you.
These are only two explanations out of a vast array of ones available to you. Just some food for thought.
