Greetings Witchbookians,

A short while ago someone made a comment somewhere generally stating that they didn't like how fast witchbook was growing, because they liked it's small community feel.  This got me thinking.  I've never really stopped to think about that perspective, As a webmaster, I'm hardwired to think the more people visiting your website, the better your website.  But Witchbook isn't ""MY" website, It's "OUR" website.  (I just get more say since I pay for it)

Since that comment was made, I've been thinking about this a lot.  I even briefly agreed and thought it might be better if the site was smaller.  But the more I've thougt about this, the more points keep telling me that we should be embracing growth, rather than embracing exclusivity.  One of my semi-recent website projects that failed (www.theseguysarenuts.com), failed because it's community never grew, people dissapeared until it petered out completely.  People will always be loosing interest, and dissapearing, thus you have to grow as a community to stay alive.  Not to mention "Power in Numbers", the bigger we grow, the more credible, we are, the more seriously we are taken, and the more power we have to make a difference.  The most effective point that nearly convinced me was that Wicca is a mystery religion, we don't try to convert or recruit people, people must find us.  I agree with this 100%, however witchbook is not a religeon, it is a website that is themed to best serve a specific spiritual niche, and I believe that it's best to allow the public, or the world of pagans/wiccans to have an easier time finding us should they wish to.

Now of course I'm talking moreso about our Witchbook community, not just the site.  But, the site is the easiest place to grow, to add new people to our community.  And while I love the help everyone gives, the odd donation that takes a small slice out of the webserver bills...  I wanted to post the Top 10 ways that people can help without involving money.

1. tell people about it.
2. Invite people on facebook to it's facebook page.
3. Post a general link to it on facebook.
4. Tweet about witchbook.
5. Post about witchbook on MySpace.
6. Digg witchbook (see digg.com link on witchbook homepage).
7. If you have a blog/website/youtubechannel/etc...  Mention us!  And link if possibe...
8. Give us a good rating on StubleUpon
9. Mention us on Any other Pagan sites you might use (where appropriate, we don't condone Spamming)
10. Be a great example of the community you represent.  You are a wonderful person, but we all have flaws.  I do, You do, and so does everyone else.  Forgive other's flaws (and don't rub their noses in it first), and show them your strengths, Show them how fantastic you are, and when they want to meet more people like you, tell them to come here!

Regards,

DigialMagick

Still missing the old feature CS had that notified you when comments were made either to a blog or forum you wrote or one you commented on. Any chance in that coming back? Also I do understand the gripe about the email notifications as they tell you something has changed but not what it is- it is kinda annoying. All in all though I love WB and am proud of how it is growing. Congratulations to you on making it happen :)

@Melodye - The Groups DO have their own forums, The groups are FOR whatever people wish to use them for, and the community generally seems quite happy with them, so I'm not really going to assign some great specific purpose. Not sure what you mean by subscription notifications, the subscription on the homepage has nothing to do with and update notifications, and anything else that e-mails you (when you get a friend request, or are copied on a message in your inbox) the e-mails explain this quite clearly. We don't have a programming team and full PR staff such as facebook does, so we can't make everything as obvious. But generally I don't see any community connection problems, and site growth hasn't statistically shown any corrolation to such when I update and add new functionality.
