Is Dedication ok if I'm a Chaote?
Quote31.01.2012 19:200 people like thisLike

I am part of a Wiccan Coven (unofficially).  I have not yet dedicated.  I really want to dedicate. But I am a Chaote. I have integrated Wicca into my Craft very easily amongst my other beliefs. But would that be ok? Is this ok for dedication?

This question presents a bit of a paradox. On the one hand, chaotes are stereotypically the "rebels" who generally don't dedicate themselves to any one traditional path. On the other hand, chaotes are all-inclusive, feeling free to adopt ideas found in everything from Wicca to science fiction. Being a chaote and dedicating one's self to a Wiccan coven could be seen as exactly the sort of paradoxical and humorous act that would be attributed to a chaos magician.

Anyway, here's my advice: There is no right answer except what you truly feel is right. Of course, it may be a good idea to let your coven mates know what you're all about before you officially join to avoid possible issues down the road.

As Melusina said, it wouldn't necessarily be against a chaote's "rules" (assuming we have any Wink) to dedicate to a coven.  If it calls to you go for it, and it would be a sign of good faith if you informed said coven about your chaotic leanings beforehand.  That, of course is entirely your discretion.

I suppose I don't have anything to add to the discussion other than another voice though, lol.

Ok so for a chaote it's ok since we don't have any rules. But am I disrespecting Wicca by doing this? Is it ok for a "Wiccan" to have more then one spiritual path?

I'm not going to claim to be an expert on that particular matter; however, I do know that one may be eclectic (taking practices from multiple sources) yet hold his/her feet in one particular group.  Some would say that doing the above is a form of sacrilege to Wicca, but many others would say that it is perfectly acceptable.  Personally I find the idea of a Chaos Witch fascinating and powerful.  Chaotes (generally speaking) have rules, but the point is that the rules of the individual (you) are more important than any other's.  If your personal ideals/rules match relatively well with the witches of this coven, then there shouldn't be a problem.  The faith itself won't take any offense or degredation, but the coven members may or may not be accepting.  Those people are the rules of that coven.  Ask them and you will know.

Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted. From a Chaos view, it is perfectly ok. From a Wiccan view, you might have to deal with the rede. If it's ok in your own mind then there should be no problem.

Hey deary,

Welcome to WB! Here is my two cents about your dilemma. Modern day Wicca for the most part is very accomodating when it comes to acceptance of other paths. Even amongst themselves they are very ecclectic. It is a hallmark of Wicca after all. However, there are covens in which an actual initiation would require you to accept the God and Goddess and certain other beliefs. You could still practice the way you wanted though. But may covens will hold you in the outer circle and not allow you into the inner circle unless you are ready to take those steps. It's not a bad thing, but what I'm reading about serious covens is that the inner circle is reserved for those who practice and accept the most secret of teachings. It would be a little counter intuitive to allow someone in the inner circle who is at a personal war with what they truely practice and bits and pieces of Wicca that they might not want to practice. However, you could still be in a coven and feel included, share and learn and grow. I don't belong to one because I am more Druid, there IS no coven/s in my area or Groves for that matter, and I am very far into the back of the broom closet lol. If you get no where or feel out of sorts just practice on a solitary level. Not all covens are going to do an inner/outer circle type thing and might well be fine with your side path.
